"International Woman’s day happens once a year. It is 24 hours to pause and reflect upon the milestones and great progress everyone has made throughout the generations in mutually striving towards equality, hence the hashtag Each for Equal. Progress for equality however is only a dream until one voice makes it a reality. Thankfully not just one, but many are and have joined together to collectively fight towards this common goal. From Emmeline Pankhurst and the suffragettes fighting for women’s right to vote, to Malala Yusafzai these activists have paved the way for society to look past gender and recognise the talent and drive in the person. Moving to the present day, we now see it more common for woman to hold the top positions in jobs. The Executive chair of the global bank, Santander, is a woman, Ana Botín and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez became the youngest woman elected to congress in 2018. A pay-gap between the genders still remains another obstacle must be tackled, but for today let’s celebrate how far we have come and tomorrow continue striving for a year, in the not-too-distant future, where inequality between the sexes can only be found in history books." - Arianna McBurney Lopez (Beyond Skin Youth4Peace Ambassador),
Beyond Skin have marked the event for the past 15 years hosting concerts, youth summits, guest speakers events and workshop programmes. This year we are assisting other groups by supporting their IWD events whilst we share stories, photos and videos featuring the intergenerational team of women who work with us.
