My Life and Work
As Thomas Merton rightly said, “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” I found myself after falling in love with art and got lost in it. I was born in Kabul in 1992 and got my way to the university after completing high school in 2009. I chose art and graduated with an undergrad degree in graphic design from the Department of Arts, Kabul University in 2013. Considering the love and affinity I had towards the art of painting, I had started to paint six years before getting into the university and had organized 20 private and 10 public exhibitions of my work in the country. I was the artist of the year in 2014 for the best design artist awarded by the Turquoise Mountain.
More than four decades of war and conflict in Afghanistan has taken almost everything from this country. Art has not been in exception. Artists fled the country and the culture and love of art vanished from among the people. As an artist, I had to face the challenges of promoting street art and graffiti from its nascence along with my fellow artists. I bred the vision of reviving art in the country where people were still suffering from the traumas of war and conflict. I believed that art and colour is one of the cures that divert people’s mentality from the memories of conflict to the beauties of culture through art. However, this has not been an easy job. In a society that has experienced decades of conflict and the rule of extremism, it was hard to paint openly. I and my colleagues were threatened for our work under the names of religion. Conservativism still dwells largely in the Afghan society that considers freedom of expression through art, against the norms of local culture and religion.
After 10 years of painting and designing graphics, I started to take art to the streets. For the first time in Afghanistan, I began to paint graffiti on the ugly security walls of Kabul City to transform a warzone into beautiful streets. This was an opportunity for artists to contribute in tackling social issues such as peace, women and children rights, elimination of violence against women and racism.
I strongly believe that art has the power to change people’s perception, which will ultimately change a society. As a young artist, I continued to do my job despite the challenges I faced. After one year of painting graffiti on the streets, people slowly started knowing me as an artist and paid respect to me and my work. I am now leading a team of 30 street artists who are mostly women. This change in people’s perception brings hope to me and helps me carry on. - Noor

It was an experience she continues to share today through her company Unique New Adventure Ltd and working with Beyond Skin developing collaborative projects with Afghanistan. This includes Afghan Women's Orchestra Northern Ireland project in partnership with Yallaa and Afghanistan National Institute of Music.
زندگی وکارکردهای من.
نام من نور ارژنگ است درسال (1992)درشهرکابل دیده به جهان رنگهاگشودم.
وپس ازدوره ی اتمام مکتب درسال(2009)شامل دانشگاه کابل دانشکده هنرهاگردیدم.ودرسال (2013) ازدانشکده هنرهادیپارتمنت گرافیگ فارغ گردیدم ونظر به عشق وعلاقه ی که به هنرنقاشی داشتم ودارم نقاشی راشش سال قبل ازآمدن به دانشکده هنرهاآغاز کرده بودم و به تعداد(20) نمایشگاه انفرادی و(10)نمایشگاه دسته جمعی برگزار کردم. ودرسال(2014)لقب هنرمندسال رادربخش هنرطراحی ودیزاین درکابل ازطرف نهاد فیروزکوه بدست آوردم.
همیشه من وقتیکه نمایشگاه برگزارمیکردم اکثرن درنهادهاوسفارتخانه های خارجی هازمینه نمایشگاه و فروش آثارم رامهیامی ساختم وازنمایشگاه گرفتن در میان مردم عام فرارمیکردم.بدلیل اینکه هنوزهنرنقاشی ممنوع بودودرمجموع بنابرسنتی بودن مردم وجامعه نمی توانستم که نمایشگاه خودم رادرمیان مردم برگزار کنم وهمیشه تهدیدمیشدم.
زمانیکه ازدانشگاه فارغ شدم به این موضوع فکر میکردم که چگونه میتوانم هنرنقاشی وگرافتی رادر دیدگاه مردم کشورم قراربدهم وچگونه هنرخیابانی را برای مردم افغانستان معرفی کنم چون درافغانستان هیچگاه درراستای کارهنرخیابانی کسی نپرداخته بود.و مردم نمیدانست که هنرتصویروهنرخیابانی چیست؟ پس ازگذشت(10)سال کارم درراستای هنرنقاشی وگرافیگ دیزاین درسال(2015)برای اولین باردرافغانستان بعنوان نقاش خیابانی شروع به فعالیت کردم وباخودم گفتم که بایدهنرنقاشی وگرافتی رااز هنرستانهاوکارگاه های خصوصی نقاشان بیرون بکشم، برای مردم وهنررادردیدگاه مردم قراربدهم وبرای مردم پیام آورصلح وزیبایی باشم وطرحهای هنرخیابانی رادر رابط به موضوعات اجتماعی که عبارتنداز همدگرپذیری
صلح،حقوق زنان، تصاویرزنان قدرتمند،حقوق اطفال، محوخشونت علیه زنان،نژادپرستی ودگرموضوعات اجتماعی بودآغازکردم.
زمانیکه کارم رادرخیابانهای کابل شروع کردم ابتدامردم
وگروه های افراطی طالبان من رااذیت وآزاروتوهین می کردن بدلیل اینکه نقاشی ازنگاه اسلام وباورهای مذهبی
ممنوع قرارداده شده واگرکسی نقاشی میکردازدیدگاه مردمان مذهبی درعذاب الهی گرفتارمیشد.
(42)سال جنگ درافغانستان تمام داشته های مملکت مارانابودکرده ومردم کشورماازلحاظ روانی دربدترین شرایط بسرمی برندوازسوی دگردولت افغانستان شهرکابل را تبدیل به پایگاه نظامی کردندتمام شهرکابل پرازسنگهای موانع امنیتی است وکابل زیباراتبدیل به زندان کرده اند.
ومن بعنوان یک نقاش جوان مبتکروخلاق بایدوظیفه خودم راانجام میدادم وبرخلاف تفکراجتماع ودولت افغانستان فکرکردم وبدودلیل کارم رادرتمام خیابانهای شهرکابل ودیگرولایات افغانستان آغازکردم.
1:هنرنقاشی،رنگهاقدرت تغیردرجامعه رادارد. وذهن مردم راتغیرمیدهدوقتیکه ذهن مردم تغیرکندجامعه همچنان درحال تغیرمی باشدومن باورداشتم که تغیربوجودمی آورم وبعدازگذشت یکسال کاردرخیانهای کابل وولایات مردم مراپذیرفتندواندک اندک ازدیدنقاش به من نگاه میکردن وبرایم احترام می گذاشتند واین به من انرژی مثبت میدادکه بایدبیشتر وبیشترنقاشی کنم وبکارم ادامه بدهم وحالامن رهبریک تیم بزرگ نقاشان خیابانی هستم که به تعداد(30)نقاش رامدیریت ورهبری میکنم که بیشتراعضای تیم من راخانمهاتشکیل میدهد.
2:درافغانستان بیشتراز (75)درصدمردم مابیسوادهستن وتصویرتاثیرگذارترازنوشتن یک جمله است بدلیل اینکه تصویردرذهن مردم پایدارمی ماندودرذهن شان سوال خلق میکندومسیرزندگی رابرای شان بشکل درست رهنمایی میکند.
باوجودیکه اینکه حالادرحدودبالاتراز(60)درصدپذیرفته شده ایم درجامعه افغانستان وبعدازگذشت پنج سال کاردرخیابان های کابل ودیگرولایات افغانستان تیم های بزرگ راتربیه نمودم وهمچنان ادامه میدهندبه کارهای نقاشی خیابانی گاهی وقتهاافراطیون مذهبی اذیت وآزارخلق میکنند برای من و نقاشان که زیردستم کارمیکنندتاحالاچندین موردگروه های افراطی ومذهبی بالای من حمله کردندواختارم می دهند اما،من مبارزه میکنیم وادامه میدهم.
